Letters from Landscaping
- Becky Tucci
Our Trees and flowers are blooming and lovely to look at, however, the pollen is upon us with full force, leaving many of us not being able to enjoy our beautiful colors. Hopefully the pollen will leave us soon!
At the last Landscape Team meeting many items were discussed as we are getting ready for the planting and growing season. Several LVR’s were approved, the Birch tree removal project has added 5 trees that will be removed soon. New hoses for the pool and clubhouse will be purchased to keep our new plants happy, and the weed control has been applied. It was noted that weed control on the berm will be applied when the new pine straw is in place.
The team had a question arise about water run off in the Phase 1 area of the Villas, and it has been determined that this will be a project for Facilities to manage. Many ideas were shared and the Team is hopeful this will be corrected soon.
At the Community meeting in March, the Team asked for volunteers to donate some time for projects. The response from the meeting was well received, but we still would like some more volunteers. The projects include, watering of new plants, weeding some areas occasionally including Pasture Walk entrance, pool and Clubhouse as a group, and 2 special projects to be announced. Please contact any Team member if you would like to come have some easy fun with us!
As per the Board of Directors, no one will be receiving new mulch this year. It was determined that last year mulch was delivered, and in many areas around the trees the mulch is very thick which is not healthy for the trees. The Board assigned money that could have been spent on mulch be allocated for the pruning of large trees at the Clubhouse, new sod, and plantings at the Clubhouse, and repairing of a few lawns that were not growing properly. If you feel you need mulch in your areas, please check for sales at Garden shops as some of them have great sales.
The Team has had several comments concerning lawns. The Board and the Team would like to remind residents that no one has a private lawn. The common areas belong to all of us, and residents cannot ask our Landscape company to complete jobs that are not in the contract. The goal of the Landscape company is to have our common areas as neat as possible, and to complete jobs in a timely manner. We would all like to have our shrubs and trees pruned on a more regular basis, but with the size of our property, they must be pruned according to a pre-determined schedule. Shrubs and trees that are blooming cannot be pruned. Trees that are not completely dead cannot be removed. Some of our shrubs can be pruned one day and a few days later, they are growing again. It should also be noted we have areas that cannot always be mowed on some days due to poor drainage, as it is not safe to put the mowers in those areas. The Landscape company does not dead head, hand weed, or remove dead plants. The Team and the Board ask for patience on these matters, and again, if you have questions, please contact your team member or Pam Alig (
