Where we Listen Respectfully and Speak Politely

Now that Winter has come and gone….and come and gone….and come again, we are all looking forward to perhaps finally putting our heavy overcoats away…or maybe not, depending on how brave you are!!

A few reminders from our Facilities team:  We changed our clocks this weekend, and now is a great time to be reminded that it may be time for you to replace smoke detector batteries before they begin beeping at 2AM.  If you do not know the last time you changed the batteries, please do so and stay safe.  If this is something you cannot do yourself, please contact a facilities member as they have the name and number of a handyman.  Also, please remember that the smoke detectors need to be replaced every 10 years. If your unit is ten or more years old and the detectors have not been replaced, please consider replacing them this year.  A sure indicator that your smoke /carbon monoxide detector needs to be replaced will be that you still hear beeping after the batteries have been replaced, and it is recommended you replace all detectors at the same time.

Facilities have begun inspecting driveways and will prioritize those that need immediate attention.  Homeowners will be notified by the Facilities team if your driveway will be worked on.

In the past, the COA was responsible for keeping the mail boxes clean and secure.  Now that we have cluster mail boxes, the COA will no longer be responsible for your individual paper box.  Please keep it clean and check it often, especially if you have a birthday and during the Holiday season.

Our border fence is now complete and will be curing for the next year.  The Board has decided that the fencing will not be painted as it was in the past, partially because it would have to be repainted on a regular basis, but mostly as it would be very costly to keep it painted.  The pressure treated wood will age naturally, and blend in nicely with the surrounding landscape colors.

The mulch and pine straw replacements will begin in the near future, as will the plantings the Landscape committee have chosen for the year.  The committee has chosen to not do annual plantings in front of the Clubhouse, but will have permanent small shrubs placed there. This will also be cost saving as the shrubs will not have to be replaced every year.  These past two years the deer have been

will not have to be replaced every year.  These past two years the deer have been having a feast on the flowers planted, and due to lack of sun the flowers have not fared well.  Our Bloomsbury supervisor helped choose shrubs that do well in low sunlight, yet are very colorful.  We will also soon be seeing new trees that will replace those removed in 2021 as well and new shrubbery on BlueBird Lane across from the Pasture Walk entrance on the left that will match the right side which was completed in 2021.

Our dog walkers have noticed that several food items, such as bones, and canned food have been left inside the BarkYard.  While this is greatly appreciated, please do not leave items inside the BarkYard.  Many of our dogs are also senior citizens with food and treat restrictions, and several of our dogs have food allergies.  If anyone would like to donate to the health and wellness of our dogs, we always accept donations to keep our dog stations well stocked.  Please contact any Board member if you would like to donate.

The Board also decided that the opening of the Clubhouse will now be official.  The Social Team may be opening the Clubhouse for Friday at Five when outside conditions are not optimal, and Dinner club, which is being redesigned, may open in the future.  Watch your email for announcements concerning these events.  There will be restrictions on the number of residents that can attend an event, but it is a start in getting back to “the way we used to be.”

The Board would also like to remind all residents that they have the right to contact York Properties any time if they have a question concerning their unit or an emergency that needs immediate attention. If residents have a question concerning the Common areas, please contact the Board first, and if your question cannot be answered, the Board will refer it to York Properties.
