Director Randall Wallace gives us the riveting story of courage and sacrifice as Mel Gibson leads the 7th Cavalry into the first major battle of the Viet Nam War in November 1965. A harrowing event in the la Drang Valley or Valley of Death, where 400 American troops face 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. The fighting is relentless as both sides try to out maneuver the other. The combat scenes are gory and realistic. A strong cast supports Gibson in one of his better roles.
